Frequently asked questions
Why do I need to have regular dental checkups?
Regular checkups are needed to monitor your overall oral health. Dental checkups can alert your dentist to other medical conditions that have symptoms in the mouth such as diabetes, nutritional deficiencies, and hormonal irregularities. Regular dental visits are vital to prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other conditions affecting your mouth.
How important are X-rays for a dental exam?
X-rays detect some conditions not visible through a visual exam. They reveal the presence of small cavities between teeth, infection in the bone, periodontal disease, abscesses, impacted teeth, some types of tumors and cysts, and other problems affecting oral health. Early detection can save you time, money, and discomfort.
Why should I floss?
Flossing cleans away the plaque from between your teeth and increases blood circulation in your gums. Flossing increases your chances of keeping your teeth for a lifetime and decreases your chance of having periodontal or gum disease.
Is it normal for my gums to bleed when I first start flossing?
For the first several days that you floss, you may experience bleeding or sore gums. After the first week, if you are still bleeding after you floss, you should contact your dentist.
